Into the thick of it: Mindsets to Overcome When Building a Business

As a female entrepreneur helping other women develop spiritual businesses... I have news for you.

I noticed a trend among the mindsets women face whenever they try to rise above the mold they know.

Top 5 mindsets I have noted are:

  1. The scarcity mindset

  2. The fear of breaking the mold mindset

  3. The fear of judgement mindset

  4. The fear of money mindset

  5. The fear of failure mindset

  6. The fear of success mindset

Never doubt for a second that if you experience any of these, you are not cut out for business.

Entrepreneurs face all of these mindsets and more!

Let's explore them a little more.

1. The scarcity mindset

There is nothing quite like the fear of scarcity when you try to start a business.

Some people discover it once they start to think bigger.

Suddenly, EVERY avenue you think of feels impossible.

Writing on X? Your voice feels small.

Posting on YouTube? It's been done before.

Wanting to make an IG? You won't stand out in the sea of media.

Not to mention as a woman, you immediately feel like you're competing to be heard, to be the most attractive, and to sound like the expert, all while being likable and relationship focused.

It's a lot.

No wonder we feel like there isn't enough to go around.

Another thing that may come up is the mindset of "this has been done before", which is rooted in scarcity.

I have news for you my lovely friend: It probably HAS been done before.

Probably 6000x before.

I know that isn't helping but let me give you an example of why that doesn't matter.

People will ALWAYS have things to say and things to contribute.

Back in the Roman age, people used to graffiti walls to express themselves.

And there are graffiti artists nowadays doing the same thing.

This should tell you that people like me and you will ALWAYS exist: People who want to create, self-express and put it out there.

So, just put it out there.

Graffiti the world with your expression.

2. The Fear of Breaking the Mold Mindset

If you have always done things a certain way and only seen examples of things being done that way, "fear of breaking the mold" kicks into high gear when building a business.

Breaking the mold means becoming something else, and often, we have NO IDEA what that "something else" is.

If your mold is all you know, this fear is perfectly normal to have pop up.

And what's more, as a woman, you may have a really tightly wound role and expectation to fit the "feminine". Don't speak, don't upset, and basically act like you're part of the furniture.

But here is the thing... Is it YOUR mold or was this mold given to you?

Was this a mold you inherited from your parents, family, community, or society?

Think long and hard on that.

It is hard to potentially disappoint or "leave people behind" by breaking your mold.

But you are an individual.

This is an individual soul's journey.

And this is the lesson where we learn there has to be an acceptance of your own soul's journey separate from the path given by others.

Accept this task.

3. Fear of Judgement

Historically and archetypally, feminine energy centers on relationship building, both with ourselves and others.

No freaking wonder we all fear the judgement that will come from building a business, especially a spiritual one!

I have felt this one so much that I have written countless newsletters on it.

Fear of judgement from those we love, from those we don't even know, and from even ourselves, is REAL.

If we are people pleasers or "don't rock the boat" childhood survivors, you know that deep well of shame that can build from this one.

The way to start with this one is to understand that if you have already judged yourself, then your fear has come true (taught to me by my lovely spiritual guru Wendy).

We need to stop thinking we can control other people's reactions to us and start being on our own team.

That starts with accepting who we are without judgement.

We are all that we are. No matter how much we resist or deny it.

Fear of judgement is overcome by no longer judging yourself.

PERIOD.

4. Fear of Money Mindset

Are you giving away your services for free out of fear of charging your worth?

Yeah, I get it.

I'm hella guilty too.

Money can produce drastic change in one's life, some we are not prepared for.

AND

Money indicates how much we value what we do.

Pricing and charging our services is BOUND to bring up deep wells of limiting beliefs.

If you don't have a high sense of self-worth (which... who does honestly), you will experience this one.

And not to mention, spiritual entrepreneurs are often soul-led people and sometimes charging for your services feels anti-humanitarian.

ANNNDDD historically, making money was a "masculine" thing. (Don't ask me why, ask the history books).

Well I have news for YOU:

The money mindset is helped by reading the right books, picking healthy role models, and working on your own limiting money mindsets.

ALSO it comes with building a business you believe in and a business plan that works well for YOU.

You know your business plan?

No, you haven't written one?

It is time.

5. The Fear of Failure Mindset

"What happens if I don't succeed?"

This is a question I ask myself A LOT in the process of business building.

Who the hell trained us to have this fear?

Our society.

You know when you were in school and you'd be held back if you failed enough times?

Thank that and more.

But I have learned something:

Literally the ONLY failure is not doing "it" at all.

Sitting stagnant and not doing the important work feels WORSE.

And not only that, you can gain a lot of information once this fear pops it's little head up.

Then you get to ask yourself these fun questions:

"What if I DO fail? Then what?"

"How will I pivot?"

"Am I flexible and resilient enough to handle tough times?"

"How will I cope with it?"

Girl, get your spiritual guides in on this one.

Ask for guidance and strength to overcome the disappointments and the wisdom to see it clearly.

And journal.

Journal on this one ALOT.

6. Fear of Success Mindset

Oh boy.

Surprise!

Fear of failure isn't the only thing that's got you between a rock and a hard place:

I thought I was afraid of failure... But it turns out I was even MORE afraid of success.

Success means that you broke out of the mold, you got over the money beliefs, you obviously didn't fail, you have evidence to support instead of judge yourself, and that there was an opportunity out of the scarcity.

SOOOOO, what then?

Who are you then?

What does life look like?

Taking the time to visualize what success looks and feels like will do wonders for this one.

Allow yourself little by little to create a vision of what success looks like.

You might feel resistance at first.

But it becomes easier the more you exercise it.

I recommend you journal on this vision.

You will slowly start to feel that fear get replaced by excitement over the successful life you've envisioned.

Did this resonate?

Well, that is all for this fine Wednesday.

I hope it helps you-- Please reach out and email me for any comments or feedback!
