Not having time is a lie

Alright look.

As your friend, I gotta say: Stop using "I don't have time" as an excuse for not doing the work.

Yeah you!

Get it out of your vocab!

Nothing changes until you do this.

And I get it..

Working a 9-5 is tiring.

Having other obligations outside your 9-5 is tiring.

And even without a 9-5, LIFE is tiring.

Being an ADULT is tiring.

I hear you, I have experienced it, I get it completely.

But here is the thing:

If you are absolutely exhausted with your own life, you have to do something about it.

And the only resource you may have at this point to do something about it, is using TIME effectively.

You may not yet have the money, skills or experience, but I will bet you a PB &J that you have the TIME.

Sitting and complaining about it doesn't help or change anything.

You may not be at a place in your own life to really change things up; You got kids, pets, a lawn to mow, a weird mole, and daycare expenses.

I get it.

But then you have to ask yourself, "is this the life I want in the long term? No? Ok so we gotta change something."

Giving an HOUR a day, could change everything for you!

Most people have that extra hour in their mornings or at night and most of the time, they'd rather use it to sleep or doom scroll.

What you do with that hour matters.

Do you use it to escape your life or to build an escape?

Meaning, if you have one hour in the morning and are completely busy the remainder of the day, what you do in that hour needs to be something that builds you towards eventually having more options.

If you are using your time effectively, you are using it to create options for yourself.

So if you are working a job you hate and it absorbs 10 hours of your day with commute and traffic etc, your tendency might be to use the extra time outside of that job to numb out.

Social media or Netflix every night of the week after work.

Well guess what? Your life will remain EXACTLY the same in a year using this strategy.

I am digging into this because it is SO important you understand what is at stake here.

I want you to get to a place where you DO NOT have to numb out of your life, my friend.

I want you to get to a place where you remain engaged and connected to your life.

An hour every day towards a project, skill, goal that matters to you is the way to create greater ability to do that.

And I emphasize, pick something to build - Something that builds YOU up, builds your credibility, your resources, your network, your options.

Last year, I lost a job and that time period of applying left me with A LOT of time on my hands.

And after spending several days with getting nothing done despite having nothing to do, I finally understood this lesson:

The way you use your time is a habit, and it won't change by changing jobs. It changes because YOU decide to change it.

Something has to be important enough to work towards it.

If you want a great body, take the time to burn the calories, take the stairs, make your food, research recipes.

Take that hour to meal prep, hell take that hour to take a walk!

If you want to discover your passion, pick up a book on a subject you're interested in and read it every day for an hour.

Listen to a podcast for that hour to get ideas.

If you're at the point where you kinda know what you'd rather do with your time, start to build it.

Take a project and chunk it down.

Time is not meant to be wasted; It is meant to be used.

You do not have a lack of time, what you have is a lack of discipline.

(I hate to sound like a gym bro, but I am trying to get this point across.)

"I haven't had time" or "I don't have time" is a LIE we tell ourselves to not have to do hard work.

Waking up earlier = hard.

Taking time in the evening to go to the gym = hard.

Have you heard the term, "Choose your hard?"

No, yes? Either way it applies here.

In my own life, I find I am most productive in the mornings so for an hour each morning, I schedule my goal building.

I write my newsletters in the morning.

OR I work out in the morning.

OR I build my next project.

An hour a day gets you further than you'd expect. Just keep at it.
