Let your Freak Flag Fly

I walked into Barnes and Noble this week and I found this book:

The first thing that crossed my mind was "You could write a book about anything these days."

And then a second thought came to mind: "Yes and that is the beauty of it."

Barnes and Noble is basically a warehouse of ideas about anything and everything that you could freely walk into.

Interested in learning about assholes? I got just the thing.

Have a thing for gothic castles? There is a book for that.

Want to explore the mystery of Atlantis? That's in aisle 12.

It just reminds me that we live in a time where we can find ANY information any time we want.

We aren't living in the days of religious tyranny anymore (At least most of us aren't... Ok at least most of the people who I hang out with anyways).

If you feel lost in a world with "too many options", you're working too hard to find the "rightest" answer.

Just let your Freak Flag fly.

For me, my "Freak Flag" was always interests in Astrology, the mystical and the spiritual (things like past-life regression and learning about natural laws of the Universe.)

We can refer to all these "outside the box" interests as, Esoteric.

Lets define Esoteric:

Esoteric:

“Very unusual and understood or liked by only a small number of people, especially those with special knowledge.”

-Cambridge Dictionary

Esoteric comes from the Greek word “Esotero” meaning deep inside or inner.

I am here to challenge you to allow the Esoteric to liberate you.

If you have ever had an outlandish curiosity in this wide system of knowledge available to you, even if it isn't popular or proven, follow it.

For those of you also into spiritual stuff, it is hard to ignore.

We have deep questions within us, like "What is my purpose?" "What is the meaning of life?" and all the usual.

If you're anything like me, the usual religious explanations, Heaven, Hell, Yada-yada, just never once worked for me.

(It gave me more concerns than reassurance if I'm being honest.)

I found all the answers to my life's questions once I got off the main road and took a bypass to Spirituality.

And to be honest, the answers keep on coming.

Esoteric tools, like Astrology, bring comfort and liberation to my life.

The inner world is something many people are perplexed by and many don't even bother venturing very deep (Have you seen the world we live in?)

If you rely on what everyone else tells you to be interested in, you'll get about as far as them.

When people think of spirituality and Esoteric shit, they think of this:

When half the time, we are looking like this:

JK.

But really, things like Astrology, Tarot, divination, parts work, numerology, past-life regression, channeled writing, etc. expand life rather than restrict it when used with positive intention.

And if you are someone who utilizes them, congrats: You are one of the few, thus why they are Esoteric.

Ultimately, I think what we ALL want is liberation from lack of meaning and small existences.

We all want to deeply engage with our highest potentials and live an abundant life with no crumbs left behind.

That doesn't mean base jumping off a cliff.

It means connecting with our highest selves, our own link to the universe.

What restricts this from happening?

Not allowing ourselves to be ourselves.

That is how I felt before I found Astrology.

Astrology is a tool that helped me understand my place in the Universe.

It showed me the grand scheme of patterns and karma in my life.

It validates that you are born with certain inclinations and it is NOT on accident.

You are here in this playing field with purpose and intention.

It affirms that it is SAFE and actually NATURAL to be yourself.

Everyone waving a Freak Flag does it because that interest provides the same validation, no matter which outside-the-box-path it was found on.

We need to start understanding things like:

  • Loving yourself looks different than the way other people love themselves.

  • For centuries people have followed their "freak" and found reassurance and liberation.

  • You options are not limited to what society has decided is more lucrative to advertise. (Choosing to consult an Astrologer is just as much about self-love as seeing a Therapist.)

Let your Freak Flag fly!

Ok I'll pop off my soap box for now, I'm starting to lean a little too hard into the Virgo in me.

I hope this helps you-- Please reach out and email me for any comments or feedback!
